Dear Diary,
I Miss Getting Dressed for No Reason.
I miss getting dressed for no reason.
Not for a meeting.
Not for a family lunch.
Not because someone was coming over.
Just because.
I used to spend an extra five minutes choosing between two dresses. I would try on earrings. Sometimes I'd change an outfit three times before leaving the house.
Not because I had somewhere important to be.
Because it was fun.
Because getting dressed felt like an extension of who I was.
Then motherhood arrived.
And suddenly, getting dressed became functional.
Can I nurse in this?
Will the baby spit up on it?
Can I wash it easily?
Will it survive a day of carrying, feeding, chasing, and repeating?
Practicality took over. And understandably so.
When you're running on broken sleep and cold coffee, fashion doesn't always feel like a priority.
But somewhere along the way, I realised I wasn't missing clothes.
I was missing the ritual.
Those small moments of self-expression.
The feeling of choosing something because I loved it, not because it was convenient.
The version of me who enjoyed getting ready, even if nobody else noticed.
Motherhood asks a lot from us.
Our time.
Our energy.
Our attention.
Sometimes, without realising it, it also takes away the little things that made us feel like ourselves.
So now, when I find a piece that's comfortable enough for motherhood but still makes me feel put together, I hold onto it.
Because getting dressed isn't frivolous.
It's not vanity.
It's identity.
And some days, that's exactly what we need a reminder of.
Not that we used to be someone else.
But that she's still here.
Just a little busier these days.
How Sol Mama helped:
Pieces that brought back a little joy:
• A dress I would have chosen even before the baby was out
• Hidden nursing access that didn't compromise the design
• Soft, breathable fabrics that felt as good as they looked
Because sometimes getting dressed isn't about going somewhere.
It's about finding your way back to yourself.
